WSH Guidelines on Inland Inshore Commercial Diving

Overview
Curriculum

This training course focuses on best practices and guidelines for commercial diving operations conducted within Singapore’s inshore and inland waters, at depths not exceeding 50 meters. The course is designed to assist service providers, such as commercial diving contractors and dive teams, as well as service buyers, including shipyards, vessel owners, and operators in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. Public agencies like the Public Utilities Board, National Parks Board, and Defence Science and Technology Agency are also key stakeholders addressed by the course.

The primary objective of the course is to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge and guidelines for safely managing commercial diving operations. It emphasizes the importance of proper planning, assessment, and the use of specialized diving equipment, such as Surface-Supplied Diving Equipment (SSDE) and Surface-Supplied Breathing Apparatus (SSBA), which are specifically required for safe operations. The course also covers the Commercial Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (CSCUBA) as an approved method for commercial dives, excluding recreational diving or other specialized forms of diving.

Key topics include risk assessment of common hazards associated with commercial diving and the implementation of effective risk controls. Participants will learn how to develop emergency response plans to handle incidents like the recovery of unconscious or injured divers and managing situations where respiratory air supply is compromised.

While the course provides general guidance on safety and operational protocols, it is not prescriptive in nature but focuses on helping participants tailor their procedures to specific diving conditions. Emergency response procedures, equipment use, and safety protocols are all integral parts of this training, ensuring that participants are well-prepared for various emergency situations.

By the end of the course, attendees will be equipped with the knowledge to conduct commercial diving operations safely and efficiently, ensuring the well-being of dive teams and compliance with local regulatory standards.
