WSH Guidelines on Anchorage, Lifelines, and Temporary Edge Protection Systems

Overview
Curriculum

The training course on Falls from Heights (FFH) prevention is designed to equip employers, supervisors, and workers with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively protect against one of the leading causes of workplace injuries and fatalities: falls from heights. Working at heights (WAH) poses significant risks, and it is crucial to implement appropriate safety measures to minimize the dangers associated with such tasks.

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of key fall prevention systems, including anchorage points, lifelines, and temporary edge protection methods, to ensure that workers can perform WAH activities safely. One of the core principles emphasized in this training is that risk assessment should be conducted before any WAH activities begin. By thoroughly assessing risks, employers can eliminate or substitute high-risk activities wherever possible, reducing the need for workers to be exposed to hazardous situations.

The course explores different fall prevention methods, starting with the most preferred option: the use of temporary edge protection systems, such as guardrails, to prevent falls. When this option is not feasible, the focus shifts to the use of anchorages and lifelines, which, in conjunction with proper personal protective equipment (PPE), can help arrest falls and prevent serious injuries during accidents.

Participants will also gain specific knowledge related to fall prevention systems in two structural categories: ISO tanks and formworks. The training covers the correct application of anchor points and lifelines in these scenarios, providing practical insights that can be applied to real-world situations.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to understand and implement the proper use of anchors, lifelines, and edge protection systems, as well as identify the correct safety measures for different structural environments. This training empowers workers to prevent falls effectively, creating safer workplaces and reducing the risk of fatal or serious injuries caused by falls from heights.
