WSH Guidelines on Safe Loading and Unloading on Vehicles

Overview
Curriculum

This training course provides updated guidelines on Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) practices within the logistics and transportation (L&T) industry, emphasizing cargo transportation and securing methods. The course covers the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders, including employers, managers, supervisors, drivers, and the loading crew, each playing a critical part in ensuring workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Employers: Must provide suitable vehicles and equipment, ensure regular maintenance, and implement WSH management systems. They are also responsible for investigating safety incidents and ensuring workers are trained and competent.
  • Managers and Supervisors: They must instruct staff, ensure vehicle maintenance, conduct risk assessments, and plan safe delivery routes. They are also responsible for addressing reported safety issues.
  • Drivers and Loading Crew: Their responsibilities include inspecting vehicles, adhering to safe work procedures, securing cargo properly, and reporting unsafe conditions or incidents.

The course emphasizes the importance of packaging in cargo transportation. It distinguishes between primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging, highlighting the role of tertiary packaging in ensuring efficient cargo handling and securement. Additionally, the course outlines the forces affecting cargo during transit, such as lateral, forward, backward, and vertical shifts caused by vehicle movements.

The course also introduces a recommended delivery plan to enhance cargo transportation safety. This includes route planning, equipment checks, cargo arrangement, and securing techniques to minimize risks, such as loss of life, cargo damage, and accidents caused by unsecured cargo during transport.

By the end of the course, participants will understand how to implement these guidelines to maintain safety across the entire cargo delivery process.
