WSH Guidelines on Workplace Traffic Safety Management

Overview
Curriculum

Workplace traffic management is critical to the safe and efficient operation of various industrial sectors, including construction, marine, and logistics. Improperly managed workplace traffic can result in damaged vehicles and properties, as well as serious injuries or fatalities. This course provides participants with essential knowledge and guidelines for effectively managing workplace traffic to minimize risks.

The course emphasizes the importance of developing a Workplace Traffic Management Plan, which is crucial for mitigating hazards associated with vehicle operations on roads and within workplace premises. The plan is designed for companies that own or operate transport vehicles such as prime movers, lorries, vans, tipper trucks, dumpers, and concrete mixers. Participants will explore best practices and industry standards for managing traffic in a way that protects workers and the public.

An effective Workplace Traffic Management Plan must be developed by qualified Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) personnel and endorsed by senior management. The course will guide participants through the key steps involved in creating such a plan, including conducting an initial analysis of current traffic management, carrying out risk assessments for all vehicle-related activities, and establishing performance monitoring standards. Participants will also learn how to evaluate the effectiveness of their traffic management plan.

The course outlines the eight essential elements of an effective Traffic Management Plan, including a Workplace Safety and Health policy, clearly defined duties and responsibilities, traffic rules and regulations, risk management strategies, safe work procedures, and emergency response plans. Training and incident investigation are also critical components to ensure continuous improvement.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to develop and implement a comprehensive traffic management plan that enhances workplace safety, reduces vehicle-related risks, and ensures compliance with industry standards.
